Monday 07/05/07 - Gion

After the sun sets we pay our respects at the Yasaka Jinja before drifting through the famous "floating world" of Gion. The traditional home of the Geisha and Maiko.

The old fashioned streets of Gion are a stark contrast to the modern Kyoto found only moments away.

A Maiko waits at a crossing before disappearing into the depths of Ponto-Cho along the Kamo River

I'm not sure if this statue is supposed to discourage young children from shop lifting!

A lone cat guards one of the shrines in the back streets of Ponto-Cho
